AMALGAMATED TRANSIT UNION
LOCAL 583
100th ANNIVERSARY
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
On February 26, 2012 our Local will be celebrating 100 years since our predecessors first organized our workplace. It was a long struggle that took many sacrifices before their job was done, but they never waivered in their commitment to create a better life for their families and for all of us that have been privileged to follow in their footsteps.
2012 will be a year of celebration and remembrance. To that end, your Table Officers will be touring the garages with information on the events we have planned for later this year so you can plan your calendar and to just say hello and share in some cake, coffee and conversation. Retirees are also encouraged to drop by and share some of their stories and maybe have a photo or two taken. The schedule to date is as follows:
Location: Date: Time:
Victoria Park February 22, 2012 4:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

AMALGAMATED TRANSIT UNION
LOCAL 583
100th Anniversary Celebrations
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Many of you are already aware that February 26, 2012 is the 100th anniversary of our Locals affiliation with the Amalgamated Transit Union. This is a remarkable milestone and one that needs to be captured, both out of respect for those that have come before us and to remind us of our obligation to those that will follow. The following is some of what we have planned to mark this occasion:
• Around the actual date of our anniversary we will be touring as many work locations as possible to meet and greet the members and friends of our Local.
• The winner of the Anniversary Pin has been selected and the pin will be in production for distribution in the near future.
• We have secured a researcher and publisher for a coffee table type book that captures a great deal of history on our Local. This is at the publisher now and should be ready in late May.
• We will be capturing many of you on camera over the next month or so and will have a video playing at our main events showing who we are. These photos will also be viewed on our web page. Just let us know if you don’t want your picture taken so we can honour that wish. • We are holding a Family Day at Heritage Park on June 2, 2012. For $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per member’s dependant child, you receive an all day pass to the park including rides. There will be a late Cowboy BBQ with a full meal including hamburgers, vegetables and all the trimmings.
• Later that day there will be a semi formal buffet dinner in Gasoline Alley with prime rib, chicken and various salads and deserts. The cost will be $20.00 each per member and one guest. If you haven’t been to Gasoline Alley in the last few years, it is something you need to check out. The evening will finish off with a live band and dancing.
• And somewhere along the way there will be banners and balloons, because this is all about the celebration. Celebrating who we are and where we want to be in the future.
We will provide more detailed information on the distribution of items and the purchase of tickets when that is finalized. If you have any stories you would like captured please feel free to e-mail them to

DO WE HAVE YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS?
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Although under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act we occasionally receive updated contact lists from the employers, that information is not always current. As an example, with City of Calgary employees if you submit an address change, although it is recorded in some areas it does not always go through the entire system.
If you did not receive the International's “In Transit” magazine in the last couple of months then we probably have an outdated address on file. Please be diligent in keeping your Union updated with your current address and phone number.
If you need to update your address or phone number please contact the Union office at 403-258-1258 weekdays between 8:00 and 4:00 or leave a message on the answering machine.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Fraternally
